Crews remain at Edinburgh top-floor flat fire as all persons 'accounted for'

Two people have been passed into the care of ambulance crews amid an ongoing fire at a block of flats in Edinburgh.

We reported earlier how crews were called to Craigievar House on Craigmount Brae, in the capital's East Craigs area, shortly after 3pm on Wednesday. Ten appliances and specialist units from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were deployed to the scene after the fire took hold in a top-floor dwelling and spread to the roof area.

Crews remain on the scene as the fire continues to rage – but previous concerns about the welfare of the building's occupants have been allayed. A spokesperson for the fire service has confirmed to the Record that all persons have "now been accounted for".

In a new statement, the SFRS said: "We received a call at 3.08pm on Wednesday June 14 to attend a fire at a block of flats on Craigmount Brae, Edinburgh. Ten fire appliances plus specialised resources have been sent to the scene.

"Firefighters are working to extinguish the fire. Two casualties have been passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. All persons have now been accounted for."

Locals were urged to keep their doors and windows closed as the fire took hold. The adjacent East Craigs Primary School was evacuated "as a precaution" while crews tackled the flames.

Police Scotland said earlier on Wednesday: "Officers are in attendance to assist with traffic management due to a fire at a property on Craigmount Brae, Edinburgh. A school nearby has been evacuated as a precaution.

"People are advised to avoid the area and local residents should keep windows and doors closed."
