Craigavon Lakes blue/green algae to be subject of Council report

Councillors are to be provided with an update on the return of blue/green algae to Craigavon lakes.

The issue was raised at Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s leisure and community services committee by Councillor Catherine Nelson on Monday, September 13.

The Sinn Fein representative added: “The blue/green algae has reappeared at Craigavon Lakes.

“A few people have contacted me about it – some who fish in it and some who look at the wildlife such as the otters we have there.

“I know we were doing a piece of work around the blue/green algae and the idea was to do some experimental stuff to see what works and what didn’t.

“We may not have that update at this meeting but could an officer bring an update on the matter back to me when they have time to do so.”

The committee’s chair, Councillor Keith Haughian said Cllr Nelson had raised a fair point and said he would like to be included in the matter as well.

Councillor Eamon McNeill also asked for the report to be sent to him and following this request Cllr Haughian said it may be best if the report was sent to everybody on the committee.
