Craig Revel Horwood to replace Paul O' Grady in Annie musical role after star's death

Strictly Come Dancing star Craig Revel Horwood will replace Paul O'Grady on stage during next week's Southampton leg of Annie.

Craig, 58, has stepped into the role following the sudden death of the comedian and presenter last month who sadly passed away at the age 67 after a glittering career.

The Strictly judge has previously performed the role of Miss Hannigan at Mayflower Theatre, but will now take over Paul's role.

He and late friend Paul were already sharing the role of Miss Hannigan during the latest UK tour of Annie.

The BBC star was left devastated as he cast of Annie paid tribute to Paul during their first performance following his sudden death.

After the end of the show in Birmingham, Craig tearfully addressed the audience and said the cast of Annie would like to dedicate their performance - and every performance in the future - to the legend Paul O’Grady.

Craig publicly paid tribute to Paul after hearing the shock news of his death.

At the time, he tweeted: "I’m in a state of shock this morning waking up to the news that my gorgeous colleague and friend Paul O’Grady has passed away.

"I’m actually reeling in disbelief. He was such a wonderful human being. Funny and to the point. Paul, legend, RIP darling."

Paul's husband, Andre Portasio, confirmed his passing in a heartbreaking statement, which read: "It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening.

"We ask, at this difficult time, that whilst you celebrate his life you also respect our privacy as we come to terms with this loss.

"He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.

"I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years."

The Lily Savage star is survived by his husband, ex-wife Teresa Fernandes, daughter Sharon O'Grady, grandson Abel, granddaughter, Halo and Diane Jansen, the mother of his only daughter.
