Cow shelter set up on land earmarked for a school, but no Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran action yet

GURUGRAM: An illegal cow shelter operating on Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) land adjacent to Adarsh Park in Sector 46 has left residents hassled. This land was earmarked to build a school, but residents alleged it has been encroached upon for years.

Though the HSVP carried out demolition drive a few years ago, it failed to clear the area entirely. The residents have now sought the CM’s intervention and swift action against the encroachers. RK Yadav, RWA president of Sector 46, said, “After our repeated complaints, the HSVP did demolish some structures two years back, but again an illegal cow shelter has come up on the government land. W have been raising this issue with the officials concerned, but they seem to be mute spectators. We have now filed a complaint on the CM window.”

The residents further complained that they have been facing stray cattle menace in the sector with many roaming freely in the vicinity posing a risk of accidents and creating an unhygienic surrounding. The civic authority should clear the land and shift the cattle to designated sites earmarked for them, said the residents.

Praveen Kapoor, the RWA general secretary, said, “The stray cattle menace has become a big nuisance in the area. Cow dung and waste is being dumped openly and during monsoon the waste flows on the road, emanating foul smell and has also become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and insects.

They don’t only block the motorable road but also pose a threat of accidents. Despite complaints, the civic authority has failed to check the stray cattle menace and take action against the illegal encroachment.” Meanwhile, estate officer-2 Sanjeev Singla said that they are aware about the illegal occupation of the government land on the pretext of Gaushala and appropriate action will be taken by the first week of August.
