New data from NHS England has revealed more than 30 local areas have now vaccinated more than nine out of 10 of the over 75s against coronavirus.

But the data also reveals parts of London are lagging significantly behind other regions with five local NHS areas in the capital reporting the lowest vaccination rates among the over 80’s – the most vulnerable group of patients.

The East London Health and Care Partnership - which covers more than two million people in East London reported the lowest level of first dose vaccinations among the over 80’s at 73 per cent.

The best performing region for vaccinating the over 80’s was Gloucestershire with an uptake of 98 per cent having had their first dose.

Seven NHS integrated care systems have given the covid-19 vaccination to more than 90 per cent of people aged 70 and over.

The data covers the period up to 7 February.

The government has set a deadline to offer everyone in the top four priority groups a chance to receive a first dose of one of the Covid-19 vaccines by Monday 15 February. This would see 15 million people receive a jab.

The latest data for Thursday shows a total of 13.5 million people have had at least one dose of the vaccine.
