Covid tests for fully vaccinated arriving to UK could be scrapped

Holidaymakers will soon be allowed to return to the UK without taking a covid test if they are fully vaccinated, reports suggest.

The Sunday Times reports that Grant Shapps will scrap the arrival tests for travellers in time for the February half-term.

The Transport Secretary is said to be in favour of ending the current testing regime, the Mirror reports.

Travellers must be fully vaccinated - which currently means two jabs for adults.

According to the Sunday Times, an announcement has been pencilled in for January 26 as Prime Minister Boris Johnson is also set to lift Plan B restrictions.

Currently, vaccinated travellers must take a lateral flow test two days after they return to the UK and those who test positive must self-isolate.

The change would be welcome news to the travel industry as people begin to book their summer destinations.

Despite pressure on NHS services, there is some positive news for the Liverpool City Region as positive covid tests fell by nearly 10,000 in just a week.

There is much optimism that the UK could be through the worst of the pandemic, but pressure remains high on many hospitals across the country.
