Covid Scotland: How to get your vaccine passport on your phone

At the start of next month, Scots will need to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination if they want to gain access to venues including nightclubs and football stadiums.

After October 1, those wanting to get into these 'higher risk' environments - which also includes music festivals - will need to have their Covid 'passport' ready to present upon arrival.

The new measures will be implemented by the Scottish Government to help slow the spread of the virus in situations where large groups of people come together in close proximity.

Covid certification will be needed at all indoor events with unseated attendance of 500 or more, and all outdoor events where more than 4,000 people are present - as well as any event with attendance of over 10,000.

For bigger events where checking every attendee's certification is not practical, random spot checks will be carried out instead, as reported by the Daily Record.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon told parliament: "Once the scheme is launched, anyone going to a venue or event which requires certification will be required, if asked, to show their vaccine record.

Anybody looking to attend a large-scale event after this month, or who routinely goes to nightclubs or football matches, should familiarise themselves with the new regulations ahead of October 1.

Here is a run-down of how to download your certification, and everything else you need to know.

How to download a Covid vaccine certificate

The NHS Covid Status app will be available for download from September 30.

The app will provide a digital record of a user's vaccination status, including a QR code for each vaccination a person has received.

The NHS Scotland Covid check app that venues can use is already available for download.

Venue staff will either scan or visually check the QR code - either digitally on the NHS Scotland Covid Check app or on the paper copy of the pass.

How to get a paper copy

You can already request a paper copy of our vaccination record, with specific features to prevent it being forged.

A QR code for each dose is also provided on the paper copy.

If you're unable to download a PDF you can still request a printed copy be sent to you by first class post. Please allow at least 14 days for your letter to arrive.

What do I need to use my vaccination certificate for in Scotland?

You'll need to use your vaccination certificate to get into:

  • Nightclubs and similar venues
  • Live indoor unseated events of more than 500 people

  • Live outdoor unseated events of more than 4,000 people

  • Any event of more than 10,000 people

Certification will be required for any venue that meets all of the following conditions:

  1. it is open between midnight and 5am;
  2. It serves alcohol after midnight;
  3. It provides live or recorded music for dancing; and
  4. It has a designated space - which is actually in use - where dancing is permitted.

Who will be required to use the scheme?

Everyone under 18 will be exempt from the requirement to provide proof of vaccination.

So will those taking part in vaccine trials; the small number of individuals who can’t be vaccinated for medical reasons; and those who work at, or perform in, a venue subject to certification.
