Covid Scotland: Further 572 people test positive as 837 are treated in hospital

A further 572 people have tested positive for covid overnight - representing 3.8% of all those tested.

Two more people have died after testing positive for the virus in the last 28 days, bringing the country's death toll to 7,131.

In Greater Glasgow and Clyde, an additional 171 positive tests were confirmed with another 95 cases reported in Lanarkshire.

There are currently 78 people in intensive care and 837 people in hospital with recently confirmed coronavirus.

As of Sunday morning, 1,593,695 people have received their first dose of the vaccine and 76,512 people have received their second dose.

The vaccine rollout is now targeting all over 50s and adults with underlying health conditions with a date of April 15 set for their completion.

Scotland is then due to return to a lockdown 'levels' system at the end of April which is likely to mean that non-essential retail and hospitality can reopen with restrictions.

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed earlier this week that the current 'stay at home' message is expected to be lifted on April 5 with phases of easing restrictions further to take place at a minimum of three-week intervals.
