The First Minister also confirmed that secondary school pupils will return to full-time education in schools following the Easter holidays as covid cases have fallen by more than 80% since January.

The return to school will include the removal of strict 2m distancing, however, schools are being advised to utilise funding to improve ventilation and to utilise the twice-weekly lateral testing programmes already available. Routine testing will be expanded to help these reopening, available twice a week on a “universally accessible basis”.

Children on the shielding list are recommended to stay at home until April 26.

Further restrictions are expected to be eased from April 26 with any changes to be confirmed at a briefing on April 20.
