Covid NI: Total of 169 people test positive in past 24 hours

The Department of Health has reported one further coronavirus related death.

According to the latest update, the fatality occurred within the current reporting period.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 2,101, the DoH says.

Thursday's dashboard update also reports a further 169 positive cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of positive cases to 115,511 since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the Department says 1,152 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

There are currently 167 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 16 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, over 40s may have to wait a few extra weeks to get their coronavirus vaccines at SSE Arena, it has emerged.

Patricia Donnelly, head of the vaccination programme in Northern Ireland, briefed the Stormont Health Committee on the continuing rollout on Thursday morning.

She said the regional vaccination centre at the SSE Arena will open on March 29 and that while it was hoped this would coincide with the rollout to the over 40s, that may be delayed by two weeks or the end of April, at the latest.

However, bookings for vaccines at the centre could go live as early as next week, she says.
