Covid Ireland: Full list of walk-in vaccination clinics as people rush to get jab before Christmas

The rollout of the booster vaccination programme in Ireland has been accelerated as the country struggles to stem the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

The Department of Health recorded a further 4,799 cases with 467 patients now in hospital, 104 of whom are in ICU.

As cases remain high, the HSE has moved to open walk-in vaccination clinics across the country throughout Christmas week.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has asked people to avail of the booster vaccine to help protect themselves and their families and warned people of the misinformation being spread about the effectiveness of the jab.

Speaking to RTE’s Morning Ireland on Monday, he said: “One thing I should say, if I may, in relation to vaccines because I am concerned that a view is out there that the vaccines don't work as effectively as they used to.

He added: “Yes, their ability to limit transmission does begin to wane after a period of time, but we think that the effect of the vaccine in protecting you from your infection becoming a severe infection is maintained through vaccination and boosting.

“That's why the booster is really important, and that will be maintained in the face of this new variant, as well as Delta. That's really, really important.”

Mr Holohan said if the vaccine had not been given, Ireland would be seeing hundreds of people being admitted to hospital with Covid.

He said: “If we had these case numbers right now 12 months ago when we didn't have vaccination, we would have hundreds of people being admitted to hospital in all likelihood every day.”

The HSE will operate booster walk-in vaccination centres for people aged over 40.
