Covid cases in Scotland today: 143 people test positive in Lothian as test positivity drops

More than 1000 people have tested positive for Covid-19 across Scotland in the last day.

The Scottish Government say that there have been 39 new reported deaths. 52 people were in intensive care last night with Covid-19 (a decrease of one), with 944 people receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals (a decrease of 55).

A total of 23,295 tests were carried out, with 1064 of these coming back positive. This accounts for 5.2 per cent.

In the Lothian area there were 143 newly reported cases. This is the third highest across the whole of Scotland – behind Greater Glasgow and Clyde (296) and Lanarkshire (151).

The test positivity rate on Friday was lower than the seven day average in Lothian – sitting at 4.7 per cent.

There were six deaths reported in the area yesterday, and this takes the seven day total to 28. A total of 678 people have died across Lothian after testing positive for Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.
