PUNE: The number of active Covid-19 cases has dropped below 3,000-mark in the Pune Metropolitan Region, with Pune leading the pack with 1,415 patients on Friday. Besides, the region recorded no fatality due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, which is a first this year.
Among the total 2,705 active cases in PMR , the rural parts have 717 patients, while the Pimpri Chinchwad area has 573. This is the least count for the region after December 30 when about 2,500 active cases were under treatment.
The daily report released by the district health office showed that PMR added 339 new cases of Covid-19 on Froday as compared to 588 recoveries. Among the total active cases in PMR, as many as 2,344 patients were in home isolation and 361 were being treated at various hospitals.
Health officials said recoveries have continued to stay ahead of new cases in the region for the last few weeks. The Pimpri Chinchwad and rural areas have added less than 100 cases on daily basis since the last few days, while the case count in the PMC limit has stayed less than 500.
As many as 8,825 samples were tested for the infection in the region on Friday. Over 3,000 tests were conducted in the PMC and PCMC areas each, while 2,512 samples were checked in the rural parts.
The region has so far reported 19,671 deaths due to Covid-related complications. As many as 14.5 lakh cases have been recorded in PMR so far and 14.27 lakh people have recovered. Health experts have urged residents to abide by Covid-appropriate behaviour, including masking, to keep infection at bay.
