Covid-19 Northern Ireland: 5,272 positive tests in the past week

There has been 1,080 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hour according to the Department of Health.

According to the department's daily dashboard, there has been 5,272 positive tests in the past week, bringing the total number of people infected with the virus to 18,910.

There has been no further deaths in the past 24 hours, with the death toll from Covid-19 remaining at 587.

The Belfast area has seen the highest number of infections in the past week, with 1,346, followed by the Derry City and Strabane area with 1,242. The Newry, Mourne and Down area has had the third highest number of cases with 592.

The Derry City and Strabane area has the highest infection rate in the whole of the UK with 824.3 infections per 100,000 people.

Those aged 20 to 39 have had the most new Covid-19 cases with 2,170 in the past week, followed by those aged 40 to 59 with 1,536 and 0 to 19 with 927.

There are currently 132 inpatients in hospital infected with the virus, with 16 patients in intensive care and 10 using ventilators.

There are 36 confirmed Covid-19 outbreaks in Northern Irish care and residential homes and 11 suspected ones.

To date, 395,071 individuals have been tested for the virus.
