COVID-19 case numbers from around the states and territories

Here's a quick wrap of each Australian jurisdiction's latest COVID-19 statistics today — Tuesday, May 10.

ACT:

A Canberra man aged in his 90s has died with COVID-19 and another 987 infections have been recorded in the ACT.

There are currently 73 people in hospital with the virus in Canberra. Five of those patients are in intensive care, with two requiring ventilation.

Of Canberra's children aged five to 11, 80 per cent have received a vaccine dose and 75 per cent of Canberrans aged 16 and older have received their booster.

NSW:

New South Wales has recorded 17 more COVID-19 deaths. 

There are 1,538 cases in hospital, 55 of those in intensive care. 

There were 10,321 new cases announced today.

NT: 

The NT has recorded 344 new COVID cases today, up from 202 yesterday.

No one is being treated in intensive care, but there are 34 people in hospital with the virus. 

Almost all of today's new cases were detected via rapid antigen tests.

QLD:

There have been another three COVID deaths recorded in Queensland.

There are 456 people in hospital, four of whom are in ICU.

The state reported 6,566 new cases and has 42,497 active cases.

SA: 

Three women aged in their 70s, 80s and 90s have died of COVID in South Australia.

There are currently 21,620 active cases of the virus in SA, with 3,683 new cases recorded today.

Six people are being treated in intensive care, with 222 people hospitalised in total.

TAS:

Tasmania has recorded one new COVID-related death, taking the state’s pandemic toll to 60.

There were 1,021 new infections recorded in the latest reporting period, up from 841 yesterday.

There are 40 people with the virus in hospital, with 16 patients being treated specifically for COVID-19 symptoms.

There is one person in intensive care, the same as yesterday.

VIC:

There have been another 18 COVID-19 deaths in Victoria.

There are 519 cases in hospital, with 34 of those in intensive care, seven of whom are requiring ventilation.

There were 12,722 new cases today and Victoria has 64,772 active cases.

WA: 

Western Australia has confirmed six more COVID-related deaths — not all occurred in the past 24 hours, but were reported to health authorities yesterday.

The state has broken its record for the highest number of daily new cases yet again, with 12,390 infections reported.

Eight people are being treated in intensive care for the virus and 286 people are hospitalised overall.
