Covid-19: Andhra Pradesh registers lowest case total in 220 days

VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh reported 220 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, taking the cumulative caseload to 20,66,670.

This is the lowest one-day case total in about 220 days after the state recorded 218 infections on March 18. The toll increased to 14,377 as four more patients succumbed to the pandemic. One patient each died of the disease in Chittoor, Krishna, Prakasam and West Godavari.

As many as 429 patients were declared cured. There are currently 4,142 active cases in the state, with 20,48,151 cumulative recoveries and 14,377 fatalities. Kurnool has as few as 24 active cases. No district currently has more than 1,000 active cases.

Four districts have an active caseload of less than 100 each. East Godavari, with 874 active cases, leads the table. Other than East Godavari (51 new cases), the remaining 12 districts reported less than 50 new infections. Two districts posted single-digit case numbers. Kurnool and Vizianagaram did not report any new cases.

Health officials conducted 25,532 Covid tests to detect the 220 new cases, which translates to a case positivity rate of 0.9%. The daily case positivity has remained under 2% throughout October. With the decreasing daily caseload, the number of daily admissions at Covid hospitals has correspondingly dropped to manageable numbers, compared to the peak of the second wave in May. More than 95% of total beds are vacant at the nearly 250 Covid hospitals in the state.
