Couple who became paranormal investigators during lockdown on Derry's most haunted sights

A Derry couple who became paranormal investigators during lockdown have spoken about their close encounters and plans for Halloween.

Married couple Jason Dunne and Kim Quigley started their YouTube channel, NK Hauntings, as a way to beat lockdown boredom and began documenting themselves visiting some of Derry's key haunted locations.

The pair had been watching paranormal videos on YouTube, and after thinking that many were "unbelievable", decided to have a go themselves.

Speaking to MyDerry, they told us about some of their favourite haunted locations in and around the city.

Kim said: "Boom Hall would be the most known haunted location here. It's a derelict building, that was our first video, then we did a return about a year later."

Jason added: "Everyone you meet has a story to tell you about somewhere in Derry they've been that's haunted.

"We would get a lot of messages from people asking, 'Have you tried here? Have you tried there?'"

Since starting their investigations, the couple say support from local people has been "absolutely incredible." As a result of this, they've been able to organise a series of Halloween events.

On Friday October 22, they're holding a public investigation at the Waterside Theatre, where Jason works.

Kim said: "We've been there before for investigations because there's so much history there, and so much haunted energy. We're bringing a group of 15 people there on Friday night.

"We're just going to do what we normally do but they get a chance to use the equipment. There are so many people interested in coming along with us so it seems a better way to do it as group."

The following week, they'll be premiering their latest investigation at the theatre, saying it shows the scariest experience they've both endured.

"The scariest one for both of us is our most recent," Kim continued.

"We went to Ram's Island for two days by ourselves. It just happened that no other people had booked, so we were completely alone. That's actually the video we're playing in the theatre next Friday for our Halloween special."

Using a series of tools and equipment, the couple are able to hunt down paranormal spirit and relay information back.

Kim said: "We would have a thing called a spirit box, and that's a way the other side can allegedly communicate with us vocally. There's a spirit talker, we can read the words on the screen that way too. We have so many trigger objects too."

As for one of the maddest sightings they've had over the past year, Jason said it was when they were able to catch a shadow figure standing in a doorway.

Jason said: "We went to this place called the highest house in Derry. On camera, we actually caught a shadow figure standing in the doorway. Then a couple of minutes later we were going out, and there was nothing there that could've made that shape or anything – so that for me is one of our most substantial bits."
