Couple build daughter 'princess bunk bed' for £150 with bargains from B&M and Primark

A couple have built their daughter her dream princess bunk bed using bargains from B&M, Primark and Facebook Marketplace.

Becky Collins and Brad Morrison from North Wales searched online for a princess style bunk bed for their daughter Lexi.

However, the couple soon realised that princess bunk beds were very expensive, so Becky and Brad decided to build one themselves.

Thanks to bargains found in high street shops like B&M and Primark as well as Facebook Marketplace and eBay, the couple spent just £150 on building their own bunk bed for Lexi.

Speaking to Lovethesales.com, Becky said: “I spent hours on Pinterest looking at ideas for Princess style beds and all the different designs cost over £1,000. When looking at what you got for your money, me and my partner thought it looked easy enough to make it ourselves.

“I found the Ikea bunk bed on Facebook Marketplace for £100, which was such a bargain. We already owned the mattresses which was another win. I then made a list of everything else we needed to get, such as MDF, paint, wallpaper, lights and flowers.”

Brad told Lovethesales.com : “We got two big sheets of MDF for £20 on Facebook Marketplace. We used two pieces of MDF for the Princess design at the front of the bed and I then painted the MDF in a Dulux pink paint from Facebook Marketplace which we got for free. Facebook Marketplace is full of people trying to get rid of things they no longer need or want. There are a lot of opportunities to get things for free.”

Becky added: “I went to B&M and got battery-operated lights for £5 and the ivy I got from eBay was also £5. I then got the roses with built-in lights from Primark for £10 and the postbox (which was previously a wedding postbox) for a £5 steal on Facebook Marketplace.”

Brad continued: “We cut off some wood which we used to make a small roof and covered that in mermaid wallpaper (it was a free sample). Finally, we attached all the décor, including the ivy, roses, lights, and the royal letterbox."

It took the couple a few hours to put the bunk bed together in Lexi’s room. Brad said: “It was a great bonding experience for us as a couple and we had a lot of fun putting it together.”

Becky added: “It’s amazing that we built something that would’ve cost us 10 times the amount if we bought new. But the most important thing is Lexi loves it and in our own way we’ve given her a castle fit for a princess.”

For anyone thinking about building their own bunk bed, Becky says: “Remember when putting up bunk beds you should always tighten them two weeks after you first start using them as they do get loose.”
