County Durham winning lottery prizes unclaimed as deadline to cash in tickets passes

Three identical tickets for National Lottery's Set for Life prize bought in County Durham have expired, meaning that £360,000 plus interest will go towards helping lottery-funded projects.

The National Lottery issued a last-ditch attempt to locate the ticket holder or holders, with the three tickets purchased for the January 9 draw still unclaimed last Tuesday. And that 180-day deadline to claim the prizes passed at midnight on July 8, 2023, meaning that at least one person has missed out on a total of £120,000.

The numbers drawn on January 9 this year were 7, 16, 24, 29, 31, and a Life Ball of 3. The top prize in a Set For Life draw is £10,000 a month for 30 years, a total of £3.6 million over the three-decade period.

Andy Carter, senior winners' advisor at The National Lottery, said: "Unfortunately, I can confirm that we did not receive a valid for these prizes within the deadline so the winner or winners has or have now sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money. However, the money will now add to the £30M raised each week for National Lottery-funded projects.

“Players can buy and check their tickets online by downloading the National Lottery app or at national-lottery.co.uk. Players can also buy and check tickets in retail.

"Playing online via the app or website means that your ticket is checked, and you get an email notification if you win a prize. You can also scan your retail tickets on the National Lottery app to check if you're a winner."

There are now two unclaimed Set for Life prizes, though neither of the other two are in the North East. They are in the Bridgend and South Holland districts, with respective deadlines of October 21 and December 2, 2023 to claim.
