County cricket – as it happened

It has been a miserable day at Lord’s although the rain appears to have cleared its way north. Met office radar is useful like that. At the moment there is mopping up going on and apparently there is an inspection at half past three. That’s new drainage for you. Back in the day we’d have been home and feet up by now. Maybe the Warner stand builders will have something to watch later.

Good morning from Edgbaston where, as per my update BTL earlier, it’s rather soggy. Covers on, umpires have already confirmed no play before lunch and the forecast is not too clever either. In fact, tomorrow looks rather bleak too, which would be a huge shame given that, with 30 wickets having fallen in the first two days, a rare result looked to be on the cards. I see Joe Root has made his a double at Headingley (seventh of the county season - we had seen three after five rounds last year) and James Vince is digging in gloriously at Old Trafford. Just been looking up Tom Westley’s record amid some chatter about an England Test call-up ... has turned out in the past for my old club Granta in Cambridge, so he gets my vote.

Morning all,

Today we have Ali Martin at Edgbaston for Warwickshire v Somerset and Mike Selvey at Lord’s for Middlesex v Nottinghamshire. Here are their reports from yesterday:

Warwickshire v Somerset

Middlesex v Nottinghamshire

Enjoy the cricket
