Country of origin is first thing people check on bottle of wine

Half of Brits (49 per cent) say that the country of origin is the first thing they look for when trying a new bottle of wine, a study has found.

A study of 2,000 adults found 40 per cent also look for the grape that was used in creating the wine.

Nearly half (45 per cent) admitted to enjoying a glass of red wine over ice, while a quarter (25 per cent) judge a bottle on whether it has a screw top or a cork.

The survey, by Invivo, also found that nearly a quarter of those polled (22 per cent) sometimes pretend to know more about wine than they actually do.

But nearly half (48 per cent) think those who share their wine knowledge while drinking are pretentious.

Graham Norton, and Invivo co-founders Tim Lightbourne and Rob Cameron, have released GN HE-DEVIL, their sixth bottle of wine, now available at Morrisons stores nationwide.

For HE-DEVIL, Graham has taken the time to taste and blend an Argentinian Malbec from Northern Mendoza, which boosts a warm climate and low annual rainfall, creating perfect growing conditions for this variety.

HE-DEVIL is deep purple in the glass with a bouquet of sweet spice and plum compote which envelopes the palate with a sweet toasty finish.

Graham Norton said: “If you’re looking for a well-behaved wine, this isn’t it!

"My HE-DEVIL was created to turn heads, break hearts and leave you wanting more… and it’s delivered on all counts."
