Council workers trying to improve area have their cars vandalised

Council workers trying to improve the local community found their car windows smashed during an afternoon of vandalism.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers from Bebington attended the Beechwood Estate with members of Wirral Borough Council to discuss further developments for the local area. These included providing a safe neighbourhood for residents through the installation of street lighting, kissing gates, CCTV and reducing the foliage.

But what was meant to be a successful meeting, led to a nightmare after their personal vehicles were damaged. Police said these actions will have a "wider impact and negative effect", now delaying these future developments.

Wirral's policing team took to social media to say the behaviour "will not be tolerated" as they added: "Unfortunately, whilst trying to enhance the area for others, some have to ruin it for the majority. During our walk-about, the personal vehicles belonging to these council staff members have been damaged by unknown persons.

"No Police vehicles were damaged at this time, but the vehicles of innocent members of the public who are aiming to help and support local communities have been. These actions will now have a wider impact and a negative effect on the process of these future developments as it will not only delay those suggestions, but the council may now have to possibly review funding.

"This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and it is a shame that this post has had to even be written."

Those with information, or concerns about the estate, are being urged to contact Merseyside Police via 101 or CrimeStoppers.

Many residents were quick to express their concerns on the "daily occurrence" as one person said: "It is frustrating when hard working members of the public are victims of such vandalism." Another added that "it's the same everywhere, they are fighting a losing battle all over the Wirral". Another resident described it as "disgusting behaviour".
