Council tenants to benefit from £253m investment plan to improve homes

Council tenants are to benefit from planned investment in North Lanarkshire’s homes, including replacing boilers, radiators, doors and windows.

Housing committee members have agreed a five-year investment plan totalling £253 million, with £68m earmarked to be spent in the coming year.

The scheme will see £21m spent on energy efficiency improvements, replacing older boilers and pipework and moving towards carbon technologies; while £14m will go on roofing repairs.

It also includes the ongoing replacement of all kitchens and bathrooms within the next two years, £500,000 on installing security entry systems and removing lead pipes, and fitting sprinkler systems in all towers.

Housing convener Councillor Heather McVey said: “Our improvements will bring many benefits – new windows and more energy-efficient heating will help reduce costs and make homes more comfortable.”
