'Could have happened to anyone:' Woman killed by falling brick in Midtown Manhattan

NEW YORK _ A 60-year-old woman walking down a Midtown street was killed by a falling brick Tuesday, according to police.

The woman was walking on Seventh Avenue near West 49th Street about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday when she was struck.

Raphael Roston, 24, said he saw medics tending to the woman from his 13th-story office window across the street from the incident.

"I just saw them working to try to revive her," he said. "It's pretty horrific. We all work right over here. Could have happened to anyone. It's very scary. There was a gentleman here ... (who) said he was walking with her. And he just stopped for a second to buy an umbrella. And he was pretty freaked out because he said 'That could have been me.'"

The victim died at the scene, drawing a crowd of shocked onlookers.
