Halloween is right around the corner, and 94% of Americans plan to share sweet treats with friends and family this season, according to Carly Schildhaus, director of public affairs for the National Confectioners Association, who spoke with the Dayton 24/7 News “Your Day” crew.

However, candy isn’t the only focus. Many people are getting into the spirit by decorating, too. For shoppers planning to stock up, the real question then becomes which warehouse club — Costco or Sam’s Club — has the better deals on candy and decor?
Full-Size Candy Bars Variety Pack
- Costco Price: $32.49
- Sam’s Club Price: $25.98 through Nov. 2
According to Schildhaus, chocolate is the No. 1 Halloween candy. If you wanted to purchase it early, you could have saved about $1 by getting the full-size candy bars variety pack at Costco instead of Sam’s. After Oct. 12, however, the Costco price increased to $32.49, making Sam’s Club’s option the much lower sale price at $25.98. Wherever you buy it, you’ll get 30 full-size packages of candy, including six Peanut M&M’s, five Milk Chocolate M&M’s, seven Twix bars, eight Snickers bars and four Milky Way bars.

Hershey’s Miniatures Variety Pack
- Costco Price: $20.99
- Sam’s Club Price: $17.86
If full-size candy bars aren’t your thing, pick up the Hershey’s Miniatures variety pack at Sam’s Club, where you can save more than $3 compared to Costco’s price — about $0.05 less per ounce. The 180-piece pack contains a variety of mini bars, including Hershey’s Milk Chocolate, Hershey’s Special Dark, Mr. Goodbar and Krackel.
Ring Pops
- Costco Price: $17.99
- Sam’s Club Price: $16.78
Both warehouse clubs sell a bulk pack of Ring Pops, but the Sam’s Club version is a little over $1 cheaper and contains four more ring pops than Costco’s pack. Flavors in the Costco bulk pack are Blue Raspberry, Strawberry, Watermelon, Rainbow Sherbet and Sour Cherry. Sam’s Club bulk pack is a limited edition mix, and contains the following flavors: Strawberry, Blue Raspberry, Twisted Blue Raspberry Watermelon, Sour Watermelon, Sour Cherry, Purpleberry Tongue Painter and Berry Blast.
Halloween-Themed Candy Bowls
- Costco Price: $49.99
- Sam’s Club Price: $20.19
Costco’s Disney Nightmare Before Christmas Jack Skellington Treat Bowl is about $50. As expected from a Disney product, it’s hand-painted and detailed, though the description doesn’t specify its capacity.
At Sam’s, the Member’s Mark Pre-Lit Ceramic Cat Halloween Candy Bowl is about half the price of the Costco offering. It’s not a Disney product, but it does feature color-changing lights inside the cat’s mouth and holds about five pounds of candy.
Halloween Inflatables
- Costco Price: $79.97
- Sam’s Club Price: $124.90 (on sale from $179.96)
Neither Costco nor Sam’s Club have a wide selection of Halloween inflatables, and selections will vary. Where you can get the best deal depends on what you’re looking for.
Costco has a 6.5-foot Bluey Family Halloween Inflatable for $79.97, while Sam’s Club has a 7-foot Disney Mickey Mouse Emote Glow Animated Pumpkin for $124.90 on sale with no end date listed.
