'Corrosive substance' thrown on Land Rover in Midlothian sparks police probe

Police are investigating after a "corrosive substance" was thrown on a car in Midlothian.

The Land Rover Discovery had a liquid splashed on to it in what is being treated as an act of vandalism in Rose Gardens, Bonnyrigg.

It was reported to police at 10.30am on Tuesday and the fire service was called out to make sure the area was safe.

The road was closed off to allow the work to take place before reopening later in the day.

The liquid caused damage to the bonnet and side panels of the Land Rover.

A similar incident took place in Bonnyrigg in May, where "paint stripper" was thrown onto a taxi parked on Dobbie's Road.

The vandalism caused concern as it happened in broad daylight just a few feet away from a Brownies group venue.

Police Scotland say "enquiries are ongoing" in relation to the incident on Rose Gardens and anyone with information is asked to come forward.  It's not known if the two incidents are linked.
