Corrie star shares photo of her brother in powerful message after being racially abused

Coronation Street star Alexandra Mardell has shared a powerful message with her fans while introducing her brother.

Alexandra, who plays Emma Brooker in Corrie, posted a photo on Instagram of herself standing alongside her sibling.

She told her followers that she has experienced racial abuse but her brother hasn't.

"This is my brother. My full brother. Same parents, same genes, same upbringing, same society. He has never personally been racially abused. I have," she wrote.

"And of course I am so, so glad that he hasn't.

"But he IS black. We are the SAME.

"Does this not prove that we are all the same no matter what colour? One race. The human race."

She continued: "Skin colour should not make you better or worse than someone else.

"The only difference is a level of melanin. "We’re all people, we’re all equal."

The actress added: "Love you bro!"

"Love this, it’s in my family too!" said one follower.

"One of my daughters had difficulty at school convincing friends I was her mum and her grandfather was black Caribbean."

"You'e both gorgeous and I hate that anyone has to suffer racism," said another.

Alexandra's post comes after the death of George Floyd in America.

Mr Floyd died after a white police officer held him down by kneeling on his neck in Minneapolis on May 25 as he struggled to breathe.

Since his death, protests across the world have taken place with people supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.

Alexandra joined Coronation Street in 2018 as hairdresser and barmaid Emma who turned out to be the daughter of Weatherfield icons Steve McDonald an Fiona Middleton.
