New mum Gemma Winter has been seriously struggling since welcoming quadruplets in October, and next week things come to a head when she accidentally puts her babies in danger on Coronation Street.
Her mum Bernie comes to the rescue when it's clear that Gemma isn't coping, but it's her new so-called friends Imogen and Vanessa who literally push her to the brink.
When she hears them gossiping about her after being plied with prosecco, an upset Gemma grabs the buggy and flees.
In her emotional state, Gemma fails to spot an oncoming car which screeches to a halt, narrowly missing the buggy.
A police officer realises Gemma’s been drinking, and Gemma admits to Bernie that she endangered the babies’ lives and hasn’t slept for weeks.
Bernie begs her daughter to speak to her partner Chesney Brown and tell him how low she’s feeling but Gemma refuses, insisting she wants to be left alone.
As her babies cry, Gemma heads out to the backyard where she sobs her heart out.
Meanwhile, there's also heartache for David Platt when he reveals that not only is Shona still refusing to see him, she’s been in contact with her murderer son Clayton.
And there's drama as Alya Nazir comes to her gran Yasmeen's rescue after it's clear that husband Geoff is abusing her.
A worried Alya grabs some of her gran's clothes and starts stuffing them into a bag, and she reports Geoff to the police, convinced he must have a history of abuse.
Elsewhere there's romance for Evelyn Plummer when she and grandson Tyrone take Cerberus to the vets, and she bumps into an old flame Arthur who enters the surgery with his cockapoo Kendal .
And away from the cobbles Ken Barlow is shocked to find his old friend Norris Cole at Stillwaters retirement complex and he reveals that he and wife Freda moved in several weeks ago.
But there's a twist when Norris admits to Ken that he can't stand Stillwaters and needs his help to escape.
