Corrie's Kel Allen opens up about emotional final scenes as she quits after two years

Coronation Street star Kel Allen has said goodbye to the soap after two years.

And the Laura Neelan actress says her final scenes are going to be emotional ones.

Fans of the ITV soap have seen Laura suffering from a terminal illness and daughter Kelly making sacrifices in order to look after her.

She made a sacrifice of her own on Friday night's episode, declaring that she'll take the blame for the murder of her husband Rick so that his real killer Gary Windass can continue to care for Kelly.

The storyline is set to end with Laura's death, and therefore Kel's exit from the show.

Speaking about working on her final scenes, she said: "Oh my god, it’s emotional. I get emotional and start filling up just thinking about it.

"What a way to go. When they asked me to come back for this final storyline I couldn’t believe it, it was too good to turn down.

"As an actor to get your teeth stuck into something so heartbreaking, dramatic and even with humour thrown in is just incredible.

"It’s been three years [since Gary killed Rick] in the running and people have been desperate for the truth to come out but I don’t think they were expecting that twist.

"Because of that twist the death scenes when they come are even more emotionally charged."

Kel said landing a part on the soap had been a dream come true.

She confessed: "For me it has been an incredible job playing a brilliant character and being part of a storyline that has really engaged the audience.

"The biggest thing I have taken from it is the relationships with the people there.

"Millie [Gibson, who plays Kelly] is incredible, such a talented actor and she is the daughter I never had.

"I knew Georgia [Taylor, who plays Leanne] before I joined as we trained together many years ago so it has been brilliant working with her again. "

Kel said she also felt "blessed" to have worked alongside Samia Longchambon (Maria), Mikey North (Gary) and Charlie de Melo (Imran).

Her final scenes will play out on screens in the spring.
