Corrie fans spot major coronavirus references - but some characters flout rules

Coronation Street fans spotted several references to the coronavirus pandemic in the latest episode of the ITV soap.

From conversations to changes to businesses, Weatherfield has clearly taken Covid-19 social distancing regulations very seriously.

The Rovers Return pub is currently only serving takeaway food, while staff are wearing minor PPE and only accepting card payments.

They also have a one-way system in place, with characters keeping a distance from one another.

As well as regular mentions of the virus and reminders to follow the rules, there was also the use of face coverings with Sarah Platt wearing a mask at the hospital - while some fans believed she was wearing it wrong.

Behind her was a sign reminding people to wash their hands, while an emotional Abi Franklin air-hugged Gemma Winter as they could not be close together.

Fans were quick to notice the additions to the street, as Sally Metcalfe was quick to accuse one character of breaking the rules.

On learning Shona Ramsey had been visited by David Platt a number of times during lockdown, she was not impressed.

But Nina was quick to point out that David did not enter the flat, and they spoke through a window.

Elsewhere though, and two other characters did appear to flout the social distancing rules clearly in place.

Jenny Connor was far from impressed when Abi didn't follow the one-way system at the pub.

She fled after an upsetting conversation with Gemma, but instead of leaving out the back she used the front entrance.

Then there was evil Geoff Metcalfe, who was seen tormenting ex-wife Elaine over her return.

Fans are now fearing for Elaine as she goes missing, believing Geoff has done something to her.

That said, Geoff would have flouted social distancing rules to get to Elaine as he was seen walking menacingly towards her.

Viewers took to Twitter each time they spotted another reference to the virus, as many mocked Sally's marigold gloves.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm on ITV.
