Coroner reveals Atlanta rapper Lil Keed’s cause of death

Lil Keed, the Atlanta rapper who died suddenly in May 2022, died from eosinophilia, according to a coroner’s report.

The “Snake” rapper was 24 when he died. He was a member of Young Thug’s YSL record label.

Eosinophilia occurs when a person’s body produces too many of a specific type of white blood cells, called eosinophils. Serious cases of eosinophilia are often caused by blood cancer, parasites or autoimmune diseases, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

The Los Angeles County medical examiner could not determine what led to Lil Keed’s case of eosinophilia, People magazine reported.

“He had been sick in bed for four days with complaints of stomach and back pains,” the coroner wrote, according to People. “His brother noted that the decedent’s eyes were jaundiced and drove him to the hospital in a private vehicle.”

Lil Keed, whose legal name was Raqhid Render, suffered a stroke during that ride. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 10:14 p.m. on May 13.

Previously, Lil Keed had been hospitalized in Georgia with stomach pain but left the hospital on his own “against medical advice,” according to the coroner’s report.

Young Thug signed Lil Keed to YSL in 2018 after noticing one of his mixtapes. Lil Keed was not named in the RICO indictment against YSL that was revealed just weeks before his death.
