Coronavirus Scotland: Number of Ayrshire Covid patients hits new high after admissions spike

The number of Covid patients in Ayrshire hospitals has hit a new high today after a spike in admissions.

The total now stands at 243 – three higher than the previous record of 240 – and a rise of 10 on yesterday's figures.

According to the data, the number of people in intensive care in the region remains at 15.

Latest figures issued this afternoon by the Scottish Government also show a further 58 new cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in the NHS Ayrshire & Arran health board region.

Nationally, 856 new cases and six deaths have been reported although these figures could be skewed as no data has has been received from the NHS Tayside laboratory since Saturday, January 30.

There are 1,958 Covid patients in Scottish hospitals; 143 in intensive care.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is due to make a statement to MSPs on Tuesday, updating the Scottish Parliament on lockdown and the return to schools.
