Coronavirus Scotland: New spike in cases as 60 positive tests declared overnight

A fresh spike in coronavirus cases across Scotland has seen 60 new positive tests declared by the Scottish Government.

The latest figures show 60 more cases have been detected in the past 24 hours. The total for Scotland now stands at 18,950.

But there has been no new COVID-19 deaths in the country for 23 days now.

In Ayrshire and Arran, one more case has been identified overnight. And the total for the region now stands at 1280.

Symptoms of coronavirus...

The symptoms of coronavirus are:

  • a cough
  • a high temperature
  • shortness of breath
  • a loss of taste and smell

But these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness.

The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.

How to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus...

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work

  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available

  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze

  • put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards

  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

If you think you may have the coronavirus, do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. Call 111 if you need to speak to someone.
