Coronavirus Scotland: one million tests conducted as Scotland hits covid milestone

Scotland has reached a significant milestone this afternoon as the Scottish Government confirmed more than one million tests have been conducted in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

The first positive cases were recorded in Scotland in March and as of today (Tuesday) there have been 1,003,492 coronavirus tests across the country.

According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), the population of Scotland was estimated to be at 5,463,300 in June 2019.

Therefore, a simple calculation would reveal that as an average almost one in five people living in Scotland have had a covid-19 test. However, obviously that figure provides an inaccurate picture, given many people will have received multiple tests since the outbreak started.

Today's Scottish Government statistics also show that of the 1,003,492 tests conducted, 67,011 have tested positive, or 6.68%.

The death toll currently stands at 2,877.

The Government today confirmed: "1,003,492 people in Scotland have been tested for #coronavirus.

"The total confirmed as positive has risen by 999 to 67,011.

"Sadly 28 more patients who tested positive have died (2,877 in total)."
