From Monday anyone arriving in Scotland from abroad must self isolate for 14 days.
Justice secretary Humza Yousaf made the announcement this afternoon, and warned that visitors would have to fill in a form to let authorities know where they would be isolating.
He said those who failed to comply with the new regulations were at risk of a £480 fine or even criminal prosecution.
He said today: "From tomorrow, anyone travelling to Scotland from abroad must self isolate on arrival for 14 days. This time period reflects the incubation period for the virus. Arrivals to Scotland will be required to fill in a passenger locator form before they travel, including details of where they will isolate and how they can be contacted.
"Border force will have responsibility for imposing this requirement through spot checks. The information provided by travellers will allow some of those arriving in Scotland to be contacted during their time in isolation.

"The regulations that will come into force tomorrow will also provide powers for police officers to issue a fixed penalty notice to anyone failing to comply with self isolation conditions."
Mr Yousaf said repeat offenders could be reported to the procurator fiscal for criminal prosecution.
"As with current regulations these (powers) will only be used when absolutely necessary," he added.
