Coronavirus: Patient, 24, with no underlying health conditions dies with Covid

A 24-year-old patient with no underlying heath conditions has died of coronavirus, the latest figures for English hospitals show.

A further 744 people, who tested positive for the Covid have died, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in our nation's hospitals to 70,545.

The South West once again reported the lowest death toll of 53 today (January 29). The Midlands confirmed the highest total of 143.

Patients were aged between 24 and 101 years old. All except 26 (aged 24 to 96 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from 4 December 2020 to 28 January 2021 with the majority being on or after 23 January.

The number of deaths of patients with Covid-19 by region are as follows:

  • East of England - 134
  • London - 133
  • Midlands - 143
  • North East & Yorkshire - 80
  • North West - 94
  • South East – 107
  • South West - 53

Across the Bristol region on Thursday, 20 more people died in all settings. Ten people died in Gloucestershire and 23 in Somerset and Bath.

Earlier this week the 100,000th death from Covid in all UK settings was recorded as the country draws closer to the year-anniversary of England's first Covid fatality, which was confirmed on January 30.
