The health of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, undergoing treatment for post-COVID-19 complications, has improved slightly, doctors at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) said on Sunday.
The 86-year-old Congress veteran was put on invasive ventilation on Saturday after suffering multiple organ failure.
“His health condition has improved slightly and he is maintaining an oxygen saturation of 95-97%. He is haemodynamically stable but he is not out of danger and the next 24 hours are very critical,” GMCH superintendent Abhijit Sarma told journalists.
“The former CM opened his eyes in the morning and we observed motor movement,” he said, adding Mr. Gogoi’s laboratory results were good.
Mr. Gogoi was on non-invasive ventilation since he was admitted to the GMCH on November 2. He was first admitted to the hospital on August 26 after testing positive for COVID-19 but was discharged on October 25.
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who visited the GMCH on Saturday to assess Mr. Gogoi’s health, ruled out the possibility of shifting him to Delhi. “But we are in constant touch with experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and taking decisions after updating his family,” he said.
