Coronavirus Ireland: Wicklow County Council close cliff walks, playgrounds and public toilets

Wicklow County Council has been forced to close a number of public amenities due to social distancing advice being ignored.

From Monday onwards all Wicklow County Council playgrounds, The Cliff Walk from Bray to Greystones and public toilets at the Bray seafront have all been closed.

Droves of people had been heading to the spots over the weekend which had concerned authorities given social distancing is supposed to be applied everywhere.

A spokesperson for the council said: "The Council has taken this action due to concerns regarding social distancing requirements and regrets the inconvenience this may cause.

"Members of the public are asked to follow the Department of Health’s advice and keep themselves informed."

Similar decisions have had to be made across the country after huge crowds congregated at popular spots during the nice weather on Sunday.

Gardai said in a statement: "An Garda Síochána would like to encourage people to implement 'social distancing' by finding outdoor locations that are not busy.

"Remember 'social distancing' is vital in our efforts to limit the spread of COVID19."
