Coronavirus Ireland: Parents hail 'brilliant' idea to entertain bored Irish kids during COVID-19 lockdown

Parents have hailed a "brilliant" idea to entertain bored Irish kids during the coronavirus lockdown.

It comes as most of Ireland is currently being advised to self-isolate as the deadly COVID-19 bug continues to spread.

And with schools across the country currently shut, thousands of schoolkids are spending the quarantine in their own home. But one genius idea will help keep the bored youngsters entertained - for a few hours at least.

The idea will see parents ask their kids to go around the house and write down the serial numbers of all of their valuable household items.

And when that's done, they can then take a picture of the items. All of this information can then be left in a safe place.

This will also serve as additional security if your home is ever robbed, as it will allow gardai to track down lost property much more easily.

A post on the Meath Crime Prevention Facebook page reads: "If you are looking for something to do with bored kids tomorrow I have a little job for them which you can supervise on my behalf.

"Give them the job of going around the house / garage and take a note of all serial numbers of electrical items, garden tools, their own game consoles, bicycles etc. Write them down and keep in a safe place. Put with your house insurance.

"When they have done that give them another job to photograph the items for you and again retain in a safe place."

The post adds that a copy of the Property Register Booklet can be found on  www.garda.ie

And parents were hugely impressed with the clever concept, with one saying: "Well done brilliant idea and thank you."

While another added: "Great idea, it will stop my 11year old kicking a football off the side of the house for a few hours tomorrow.

"He will really enjoy this task, thanks a million great idea."
