Coronavirus Ireland: Dundrum garda station deep cleaned after officer contracts COVID-19

A busy south Dublin garda station was closed for deep cleaning yesterday after an officer tested positive for coronavirus.

Specialist contract cleaners arrived at Dundrum garda station yesterday morning after a member of the 80-strong force was confirmed to have contracted the virus last week.

Every room and vehicle at the station was cleaned while the station remained closed for a short time.

The number of officers on night duty was reduced and other gardai were temporarily allocated to other stations, reports the Irish Daily Star.

A garda spokesman confirmed to Dublin Live the station had been closed for a short period of time but is now fully reopened to the public.

He said An Garda Siochana would not comment on individual members of the force or stations but added: "There is currently no significant impact on any functions of An Garda Síochána as a result of COVID-19.

"An Garda Síochána will provide necessary information on our service capability if necessary."
