Coronavirus Ireland: Dublin hospitals see over 480 confirmed cases as health system under 'increasing strain'

HSE boss Paul Reid has warned that Ireland's health system is "under increasing strain" as the number of COVID-19 cases in hospitals has jumped.

There are a total of 1,421 people hospitalised with coronavirus across the country including 120 in ICU as of 8 pm last night.

Mr Reid said: "There's now 1,421 people in hospital with Covid (+136 today) and 120 in ICU.

"Our health system is under increasing strain. The best support we can all now give is to avoid getting sick with Covid.

"This will help to get us out the other side of this."

Last night saw 4,842 cases of the deadly virus being confirmed with 1,049 of them being reported in Dublin.

There were 13 ICU beds for adults available in Dublin with five in St James's Hospital, four in Tallaght Hospital, two in the Mater Hospital, and a further two in Beaumont Hospital.

Suspected cases (total 92)

  • St James's - 48
