Coronavirus infection rates on the rise in FOUR Greater Manchester boroughs

Coronavirus infection rates are on the rise in four boroughs of Greater Manchester, according to the latest figures. Rates have continued to drop in the remaining six areas.

Salford, Bolton, Tameside and Manchester have all seen their number of positive cases rise in the last week. However, despite dropping rates, Trafford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, with a rate of 107.3 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending May 8.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 93.6 cases per 100,000 population. The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 108.1 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 2,653 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on May 8. The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 160 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 6 per cent in the last week.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on May 08, a total of 268 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 105 fewer than the week before, a fall of 64 per cent.

On Tuesday May 10, there were 9 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is eight fewer than a week earlier.

Deaths

In the week ending May 8, a total of 46 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 10 fewer than the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 991,727 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 9,300 deaths.

Manchester

There was a rise of 15 per cent in cases in Manchester over the week ending May 8, and the infection rate is now 94.8 cases per 100,000 population. Manchester recorded 527 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 70 more than the previous week.

Tameside

Tameside saw a total of 217 cases in the week ending May 8, which is 3 more than the previous week. That is a rise of one per cent. In Tameside, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 95.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Stockport

There were 289 positive tests over the last week in Stockport, which is 38 fewer than in the previous week. The week-on-week trend in Stockport is down by 12 per cent and the latest infection rate is 98.2 cases per 100,000 people.

Trafford

In Trafford, there were 255 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 8, which is 14 fewer than the previous 7 days. Trafford has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Trafford is up slightly compared with the previous day but the week-on-week trend is down by five per cent.

Salford

In Salford, the latest infection rate is 97.5 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone up by two per cent. A total of 256 people tested positive for Covid in Salford over the seven days ending on May 8, which is 4 more than the week before.

Rochdale

Rochdale is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 81.8 cases per 100,000 people. There were 183 cases recorded in Rochdale, which is 34 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 16 per cent.

Bury

In Bury, the number of cases is down by 11 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 90.7 cases per 100,000 population. There were 173 positive Covid-19 tests in Bury in the week ending May 8, which was 21 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Oldham

Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 152 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 8, which is 57 fewer than the previous 7 days. The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 64.0 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 27 per cent week-on-week.

Bolton

Bolton recorded 280 coronavirus cases, which is 10 more than in the previous seven days. The latest infection rate in Bolton is 97.1 cases per 100,000 people and that is up four per cent week-on-week.

Wigan

The trend is down in Wigan, where there were 321 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 8, which is 83 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 21 per cent compared to the previous week. The latest infection rate in Wigan is 97.1 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.
