Coronavirus in Scotland: Six people die overnight bringing hospital death toll to 2,470

Six people have died overnight in Scotland’s hospitals from coronavirus as the death toll reaches a total of 2,470.

The number of positive cases has now reached 18,104 - a rise of 27 from Thursday.

A total of 904 people are currently being treated in hospital with 19 in intensive care - a decrease of four.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the latest figures during the daily briefing at St Andrew’s House in Edinburgh.

The figures came as Scotland moved into the first day of phase two of the route map out of lockdown.

Scots who have been shielding at home can now exercise outside and meet with another household.

Those living alone or single parents with young children under 18 can form an “extended household” where they can meet indoors without social distancing.

This means that couples who have been separated can finally be reunited.

Other Scots can now meet up with members of two separate households outdoors and in groups of up to eight people.

Public transport has been operating extended services but face coverings are mandatory on trains, subways, planes, taxi and enclosed ferries for most people.
