Coronavirus in Scotland: Number of cases in Glasgow rises by 98 as Scottish total nears 2000

The number of positive coronavirus cases in Glasgow has risen by nearly 100 overnight.

In Greater Glasgow and Clyde, a total of 547 cases have been confirmed, up from 449 cases yesterday.

Sixty deaths as a consequence of the virus in Scotland have now been recorded.

While some 135 people are in intensive care.

The latest figures, released by the Scottish Government this afternoon, state that a total of 15,895 tests have been conducted, with 1993 of them diagnosed as positive - an increase of 430 from yesterday.

The dramatic increase in confirmed coronavirus cases is partly due to a laboratory being unable to submit data over the weekend, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said this afternoon.

Ms Sturgeon also confirmed in her daily briefing that 6% of NHS staff are off work due to having coronavirus symptoms or self-isolating due to a family member having symptoms.
