Coronavirus in Scotland: 267 new cases overnight with 53 in the Lothians

A total of 267 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours as cases to continue to rise again.

The 267 new cases represent 3.6 per cent of those who were tested on Monday.

Tuesday's figures are the highest to be reported in months, topping Sunday's number of 244.

However, Nicola Sturgeon warned that the cases are a combination of the usual figures and a testing backlog that had given the government "serious concerns" yesterday.

Out of the new cases confirmed, 53 are in the Lothians, with 101 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde as well as 59 in Lanarkshire.

Yesterday it was announced that the areas of Glasgow and Lanarkshire will continue to have tighter restrictions imposed as cases continue to rise in those areas.

Hospital admissions have remained similar to recent days, with 48 patients currently admitted for coronavirus, with 6 being treated in an intensive care unit.

The First Minister also announced that the government have begun to count hospital admissions through a different system to ensure a more "accurate picture" of the numbers, explaining the huge decline.

In the past 24 hours, one additional death was reported taking the total to 2500.
