Coronavirus forces Ireland Women's Hockey team to abandon training camp

The Coronavirus outbreak has forced Ireland's Women's Hockey team to abandon plans for a warm weather training camp next month.

Sean Dancer's side are gearing up for the 2020 Olympics, a first for an Ireland women's side, and had scheduled a training camp in Malaysia.

But that has now been abandoned, with the Coronavirus outbreak seeing 14 people in the Asian country infected, as well as over 28,000 across at least 25 countries.

Ireland have just returned from a similar South Africa training camp, and could now return to Durban as an alternative.

"It’s put everything in doubt, not just for us but for everyone," Dancer told the Irish Examiner.

"We are working hard to get something else nailed down quickly but it will definitely be in that same window from 16 March to 5 April."
