Coronavirus contact tracing under way at Ayr's Kyle Academy

Another Ayr secondary school is at the centre of a coronavirus contact tracing operation.

Pupils and parents at Kyle Academy have been alerted following a positive case of the virus linked to the school.

NHS officials said a "small number of individuals" are being asked to self-isolate for 14 days as a result.

It follows yesterday's news that a similar operation is also underway at Ayr Academy - the second time that school has been affected in a fortnight.

Joy Tomlinson, Joint Director of Public Health at NHS Ayrshire & Arran, said: "A small number of individuals are being contacted by the Test and Protect team and told to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time.

"However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff.

"We would like to remind people of the symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19): new persistent cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell.

"Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately."
