A number of pupils at a school in Yate are isolating after a member of staff tested positive for coronavirus.
Yate Academy, which teaches around 700 pupils between the ages of 11 and 18, confirmed that a staff member had contracted COVID-19 in a letter to parents.
A number of students who were identified as having been within close contact with the staff member have been isolated for 14 days.
The school remains open as normal and pupils without symptoms of COVID-19 are being urged to attend classes as usual.
In a letter to parents, Yate Academy head of school Isabel Ambrose said: "We have been advised that there has been a single confirmed case of COVID-19 of a member of staff within Yate Academy.
"We have followed Public Health England (PHE) guidance and are working closely with PHE and South Gloucestershire Council’s public health and education teams.
"In line with the guidance, we have taken the decision to isolate students who have been in close contact with the member of staff for 14 days. Those students and parents/carers have been contacted individually."
She added: "If you do not receive a separate communication then your child has not been in close contact with that member of staff.
"The rest of the school remains open, and providing your child remains well and shows no symptoms of COVID-19, they should continue to attend school as normal.
"Please be assured we are closely following all guidance from Public Health England to keep our school as safe as possible and that the safety of our children and staff is our number one priority."
