Coronavirus cases in Glasgow more than double to 21 as 85 diagnosed across Scotland

The number of cases of coronavirus in Glasgow have more than doubled to 21, according to the Scottish Government.

The new figures released show a steep rise of 11 cases in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, from 10 yesterday.

Across Scotland, there are 25 new confirmed cases, showing a rise to 85 from 60.

In Lanarkshire, the number of positive diagnoses remains at seven.

Glasgow now has more cases of the COVID-19 disease than any other region in Scotland.

3,315 tests have now been conducted across the country, with 3,229 confirmed negative.

Greater Glasgow and Clyde 21

Lanarkshire 7

Lothian 20

Yesterday, Nicola Sturgeon announced that large gatherings are to be cancelled from Monday in a bid to delay the outbreak of coronavirus.

In a press conference, the First Minister advised: "If you have symptoms indicative of coronavirus you must self isolate at home for seven days or until symptoms subside".

She was speaking after official figures revealed the number of Scots testing positive for Covid-19 increased to 60, 10 of them in Glasgow .

But Ms Sturgeon also noted that, for the meantime, "we will not be routinely testing” everyone who is self-isolating.
