Coronavirus cases across UK see huge leap as figures rise by 1,035 to 5,018

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK has seen a huge increase of 1035 in a day.

The UK Government Department of Health and Social Care confirmed the new figures minutes ago, with 5018 having tested positive for COVID-19.

A total of 72,818 tests have been carried out with 67,800 confirmed negative.

233 patients who tested positive for coronavirus have passed away across the UK.

It comes as the Scottish Government confirmed that in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, a total of 110 cases have been confirmed, up from 91 cases yesterday.

The number of positive coronavirus cases in Scotland has jumped by 51 to 373, the Scottish Government has announced, as a further death from the virus in Scotland has been confirmed.

Seven deaths as a consequence of the virus in Scotland have now been recorded.

The latest figures, released by the Scottish Government at 2pm this afternoon, state a total of 8,259 tests have been conducted, with 373 of them diagnosed as positive.
